On Tuesday 29 January, we hosted an event on the implications of Russian sanctions for international and Russian businesses in 2019 and beyond. We brought together a panel of experts to give their perspectives on the latest sanctions and counter-sanctions regimes.
We were delighted to welcome Professor Anton Ivanov, Faculty of Law at the Higher School of Economics in Moscow and former Chairman of the Supreme Commercial (Arbitrage) Court of Russia, who gave opening remarks on the legal framework through which sanctions are adopted and implemented.
Shaistah Akhtar, Partner at Mishcon de Reya LLP, then chaired a discussion which heard Maya Lester QC of Brick Court Chambers and Brian Kennelly QC of Blackstone Chambers speak on the latest EU sanctions, how the UK sanctions regime may look post-Brexit, and the nature of and reach US sanctions. Anton S. Imennov LL.M and Dr. Sergey Glandin joined us from Pen & Paper Attorneys to give their views from the Russian perspective, the current sanctions climate and its effects on business.
We touched upon issues of compliance and litigation and judicial review, as well as new case law and impact on trade and investment.
